Our owner Usman has raised staggering amounts of money for Blood Wise!

Our owner, Usman, has been a very busy gentleman recently. Together with his close friend Mani, Usman has been taking part in some huge charity events and competitions, and together the pair have raised an incredible sum of £68,850 (to date) for charity. The money isn’t going to just any charity though; all money raised is in aid of Blood Wise (formerly Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research), in memory of Usman and Mani’s close friend Kamal Aftab who sadly passed away after an intense two month battle with acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

Blood Wise work to fund scientific research to find a cure and improve treatment of Leukaemia, so not only is it a highly worthy cause, but it’s especially close to the hearts of Usman, Mani, and the family and friends of Kamal too.

Usman and Mani are continuing a legacy of charity work left by Kamal, and have taken his total of £20,000 to a staggering £68,850 over the past year, surpassing his target of £50,000 by a long shot.

The duo have taken part in Tough Mudder, the Robin Hood Half Marathon, with Mani also completed a charity bike ride to get them to this huge sum.

Kamal spent the past decade volunteering and raising money for Blood Wise, and left a huge legacy of charity work – he won the publically voted Guardian National Volunteer of the Year award in 2014-2015. His last charity achievement was completing a ‘Hospital Marathon’ from the confines of his hospital room whilst undergoing his chemotherapy treatment.

Usman and Mani are planning some more challenges to take their grand total even further for Blood Wise, so make sure you watch this space!

We at Johns Opticians couldn’t be prouder of Usman and Mani and their efforts at maintaining and carrying forward such a wonderful charitable legacy, for such a worthy cause.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our clients who have donated to this cause already. If you’d like to make a donation, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/hospitalchallenge where you’ll also find more information about Kamal’s journey.
